The Sharks are reportedly eyeing a move for a Lions youngster amid ongoing concerns over the long-term health of one of their regular starters.
According to Rapport, the Sharks are monitoring the situation of Lions scrumhalf Haashim Pead as concerns grow over Springbok No 9 Jaden Hendrikse.
The Durban-based club is taking an increasingly cautious approach with Hendrikse after the 26-year-old suffered several concussions this season.
Hendrikse endured heavy head knocks against the Vodacom Bulls in March before later being stretchered off in the first half during the Sharks’ clash against Edinburgh late last month.
The recurring concussions have reportedly led to Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus leaving Hendrikse out of next week’s Bok alignment camp in Cape Town.

The Sharks’ caution comes after veteran centre Francois Venter was ruled out for the remainder of the year following three concussions over a short period.
The 20-year-old Pead was included in Erasmus’ latest alignment camp group.
“I suspect everyone is interested in Pead, and the Sharks are no exception,” a source told Rapport. “I don’t think the Lions will let him go and the Sharks are not in formal discussions with them.”

Pead remains contracted to the Lions until 2028, meaning any potential move would likely require a sizeable transfer fee.
Pead currently competes with Springbok Morné van den Berg and Nico Steyn for game time at the Lions.
The Sharks, meanwhile, have already signed Ivan van Zyl from Saracens following the decision by Grant Williams to take up a deal in Japan.
