Joseph Dweba believes he can still force his way back into the Springbok setup.
The powerful hooker has not played Test rugby since 2023, with fierce competition at No 2 making a return increasingly difficult.
World Rugby Player of the Year Malcolm Marx, veteran double World Cup winner Bongi Mbonambi and rising hooker Johan Grobbelaar have all been preferred in recent Test squads.
But Dweba insists he has not lost hope.
“One-hundred percent, it’s still a desire to play for them,” Dweba said. “As a player, you just need to perform. The moment you perform on the field, you’ll get a shot.
“I’m focusing on performing for the club, and if we do well, then the rest will take care of itself.”

Since joining the Exeter Chiefs, Dweba has rebuilt momentum in England.
The 30-year-old has become a regular presence in Exeter’s match 23 as the club pushes for Premiership playoff qualification and EPCR Challenge Cup success.
“I’ve definitely enjoyed it [in Exeter],” he said. “As a player, you always look at the club and the coach, and Rob Baxter has a track record. He was a guy who I wanted to play for and improve my game.”

Dweba also believes the move abroad has helped him develop.
“I’ve grown as a player. “When you come from different clubs, and speaking of age too, I was a lot younger,” he said.
