Bulls swoop on Sharks star

The Bulls are reportedly closing in on another major backline signing, and this time it could come at the expense of the Sharks.

According to Rapport, teenage prodigy Luan Giliomee is on his way to Pretoria as Johan Ackermann continues building an explosive attacking squad at Loftus.

The 19-year-old made his Vodacom URC debut for the Sharks against Munster in March and immediately caught the eye with his attacking instincts and composure.

Although he featured at fullback in that appearance, Giliomee built his reputation as a flyhalf during his school days at Charlie Hofmeyr High in Ceres.

Giliomee is regarded as one of the country’s most exciting young backs.

The former Junior Springbok and Blitzbok is known for his pace, vision and ability to thrive under pressure, while also offering versatility across the backline.

Rapport suggests he is due to join the Bulls in December, although Ackermann is reportedly pushing to bring him to Loftus sooner.

The move would continue a clear shift towards an attack-heavy philosophy at the Bulls under Ackermann and backline coach Neil de Bruin.

Former Junior Boks fullback Hakeem Kunene is also reportedly set to swap Durban for Pretoria, while exciting back Thaakir Abrahams is expected to arrive from Munster after the URC season.
