Leinster’s shock defeat to Benetton in Treviso on Saturday night had a major impact on the Vodacom URC log.
The Italian club triumphed 29-26 thanks to flyhalf Jacob Umaga’s penalty goal at the death, with Leinster picking up two bonus points in defeat.
The result left the Irish giants fourth on the log, behind the Lions, who had leapfrogged them into third with a bonus-point win against Connacht at Ellis Park earlier in the day.
Both teams have 53 log points, with the Lions ahead on points difference (+90 to +67).
The Lions face Leinster in Dublin on 9 May.
