Former Stormers and Springbok wing Dillyn Leyds dotted down for La Rochelle in a convincing 45-15 win against Investec Champions Cup holders Bordeaux Bègles, who had Tiaan Jacobs in the second row.
Scrumhalf James Hall and fullback Tristan Tedder ran out for Perpignan in a 42-31 defeat to Montepellier at the GGL Stadium. Tedder crossed the whitewash in the second half.
Centre JT Jackson played the second half of Montauban’s 47-22 loss to Toulon.
Forwards Arno Botha and Janse Roux came off the bench early in the second half of Lyon’s 41-23 defeat to Clermont at the Stade Marcel-Michelin.
Former Stormers scrumhalf Herschel Jantjies was a replacement in Bayonne’s 54-22 loss to Pau in Bayonne.
Jacques Botha started at lock for Stade Français in a 47-20 defeat to Racing 92 at the Paris La Defense Arena.
English Premiership
Benhard Janse van Rensburg was in the Bristol Bears midfield as they hammered Gloucester 53-12 at Ashton Gate. Prop Dian Bleuler scrummed down for the visitors.
Lock JJ van der Mescht played the final 10 minutes of the Northampton Saints’ 35-28 win against the Exeter Chiefs at Sandy Park. Former Stormers and Springbok hooker Joseph Dweba and prop Ethan Burger featured off the bench for the Chiefs.
Johann van Graan’s Bath thrashed Harlequins 48-15 at The Rec. Props Thomas du Toit and Franz van Wyk and scrumhalf Bernard van der Linde all came on in the 53rd minute, with Van der Linde dotting down.
Five South Africans featured in Saracens’ 85-19 annihilation of the Sale Sharks in Salford. Scrumhalf Ivan van Zyl made an impact from the bench for Sarries, while lock Ernst van Rhyn, flank Jacques Vermeulen, centre Marius Louw and fullback Rob du Preez all started for Sale.
Japan Rugby League One
Springbok utility forward Franco Mostert, prop Matthys Basson and centre Dawid Kellerman started in the Honda Heat’s 49-5 loss to the Black Rams Toyko.
Centre Jesse Kriel and Free State-bound scrumhalf Faf de Klerk ran out for the Canon Eagles, who toppled loose forward Jasper Wiese‘s Urayasu D-Rocks 33-15 in Aita.
Five South Africans were involved in the match between the Tokyo Suntory Sungoliath and the Kubota Spears, who won 27-22. Rikus Pretorius started in the Spears’ midfield, while forwards Malcolm Marx, Ruan Botha and Tyler Paul all powered over for tries. Cheslin Kolbe scored seven points from the tee for the Sungoliath.Â
Damian de Allende‘s Saitama Wild Knights outmuscled Kwagga Smith‘s Shizuoka Blue Revs 34-24 in Shizuoka. Flank Juan Wilson scored a try for the Wild Knights, while former Lions centre Sylvian Mahuza started for the Blue Revs.
Flank Willie Potgieter started in the Kobe Steelers’ 38-24 win against the Toyota Verblitz in Aichi.
Springbok centre Lukhanyo Am started for the Dynaboars in their 45-26 defeat to the Toshiba Brave Lupus in Kanagawa. Prop Pieter Scholtz featured off the bench for the Dynaboars.
