The Stormers’ second-row injury crisis continues with the loss of yet another towering presence.
SARugbymag.co.za has learned that JD Schickerling has been ruled out for six months after suffering a knee injury in last week’s defeat to Connacht in Cape Town.
The latest setback further depletes coach John Dobson’s lock stocks heading into the business end of the Vodacom URC.
While Montpellier-bound Ruben van Heerden recently returned from injury, captain Salmaan Moerat, who will join La Rochelle at the end of the season, remains sidelined with a toe injury suffered in late January.
“We didn’t expect to lose two locks,” Dobson said recently. “We’ve known for some time about Ruben going to Montpellier, and then Salmaan got his opportunity.”

Dobson said there was a lot of confidence in 24-year-old Connor Evans, while seven-Test Springbok flank Ben-Jason Dixon could shift into the second row.
“Riley [Norton, the Junior Boks captain] also makes us super excited,” he added.
