Scarra: Time for me to take a bow

Veteran hooker Scarra Ntubeni is set to make his final appearance for the Stormers against Connacht at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.

The 35-year-old confirmed on Wednesday that his 15-year career with the Cape side is coming to an end.

“Dobbo [Stormers director of rugby John Dobson] and I have been having chats since earlier this year,” Ntubeni told the media.

“It is time for me to take a bow and it would be nice to play my last game here at this stadium.”

Ntubeni, who earned one Springbok cap against Argentina at Loftus in 2019, made his 100th appearance for the Stormers in a Vodacom URC clash against the Sharks in December 2023.

“I knew this day was going to come,” he said. “The last few months have come quicker than I thought.

“I am grateful for my time here at the Stormers, what this union has done for me and meant to me.”

He also hinted that he may still be around if needed.

“I will remain part of the squad, but Dobbo and I had a chat, and he wants to give me a potential last game at home.

“I will stay in shape in case the Stormers send an SOS and need a ‘seasoned’ hooker.”
