Samsung has officially started rolling out the stable One UI 8.5 update, marking another step in its plan to bring Galaxy AI deeper into the Galaxy ecosystem.
According to Samsung, One UI 8.5 begins rolling out in South Korea from May 6, 2026, before expanding to other markets. The update will come to several Galaxy devices, including the Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy S25 FE, Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy S24 FE, Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7, Galaxy Z Fold6, Galaxy Z Flip6, Galaxy Tab S11 series, and Galaxy Tab S10 series.
Some Samsung-focused reports say One UI 8.5 is based on Android 16 QPR2 and includes changes across Galaxy AI, the user interface, performance, and security. This makes the update more than a regular software patch, as Samsung is using it to expand its AI experience across more Galaxy devices.
One UI 8.5 Release Date
Samsung confirmed that One UI 8.5 starts rolling out on May 6, 2026. The first phase begins in South Korea, followed by a wider rollout to regions including North America, Europe, Asia, India, Latin America, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, and Taiwan.
The stable version arrives after a long beta period. According to Android Central, One UI 8.5 went through around four months of beta testing before reaching regular users.
This should make the stable update more reliable than earlier beta builds, especially after multiple rounds of testing, feature adjustments, and bug fixes. For Galaxy users, not seeing the update on the first day is normal because Samsung usually releases major One UI updates by model, region, and carrier.
One UI 8.5 Eligible Devices
Samsung has not announced the full list of every device that will receive One UI 8.5. However, the first rollout phase mainly focuses on flagship models released in recent years.
The first list includes:
- Galaxy S25
- Galaxy S25+
- Galaxy S25 Ultra
- Galaxy S25 Edge
- Galaxy S25 FE
- Galaxy S24
- Galaxy S24+
- Galaxy S24 Ultra
- Galaxy S24 FE
- Galaxy Z Fold 7
- Galaxy Z Flip 7
- Galaxy Z Fold 6
- Galaxy Z Flip 6
- Galaxy Tab S11
- Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra
- Galaxy Tab S10
- Galaxy Tab S10+
- Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE has also started receiving the stable One UI 8.5 update in South Korea, even though it was not clearly listed in Samsung’s initial public rollout list.
This is not the final list. Based on Samsung’s previous One UI rollout patterns, other models such as the Galaxy S23 series, newer Galaxy A-series devices such as the A36 and A56, and many devices eligible for One UI 8 are likely to receive One UI 8.5 in later waves.
What’s New in One UI 8.5?
One UI 8.5 is not just a small patch. The update focuses heavily on Galaxy AI while also refining the interface, performance, multitasking, and system security.
On the AI side, One UI 8.5 adds and expands several notable features. These include:
- Real-time Audio Eraser for reducing unwanted noise in videos or calls
- Improved Photo Assist for image editing
- Call Screening to help filter and summarize unknown calls
- Smoother communication tools across the Galaxy experience.
SamMobile reported during the beta cycle that Samsung was testing AI features such as Call Screening, real-time Audio Eraser, Creative Studio, and Photo Assist.
According to Samsung Newsroom, during the beta phase that One UI 8.5 was designed to improve communication and creative experiences across Galaxy phones and tablets. The company also highlighted a more connected Galaxy experience across supported devices.

On the interface and system side, the update is expected to bring smoother animations, faster response, and refinements to the Ambient Design experience. One UI 8.5 also adds security improvements, including protections related to repeated authentication failures and access to sensitive settings.
Some reports also point to a new multitasking engine, which could make switching between apps, using split-screen mode, and handling several tasks at once smoother on large-screen Galaxy devices such as the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Tab.
Galaxy AI Features May Vary by Device
Not every Galaxy device that receives One UI 8.5 will get the same AI feature set.
High-end Galaxy S, Galaxy Z, and Galaxy Tab models are likely to receive a more complete Galaxy AI experience. Meanwhile, some mid-range models may receive more limited AI features because of hardware differences, chipset capability, or software policy by market.
This matters for Galaxy A, M, and F series users. A device being eligible for One UI 8.5 does not automatically mean it will receive every Galaxy AI feature available on flagship models.
In other words, older or mid-range Galaxy devices may still receive the new interface, security patches, and system improvements, but the AI experience may not be as complete as it is on the Galaxy S25 series or newer flagship devices.
How to Check for the One UI 8.5 Update?
Galaxy users can manually check for the update by going to:
Settings > Software update > Download and install
Before updating, users should make sure their device has:
- More than 50% battery
- A stable Wi-Fi connection
- Around 5GB to 10GB of free storage, depending on the model
- A backup of important data if needed
If the update does not appear yet, it does not necessarily mean the device is not eligible. Samsung’s rollout usually happens by region, model, and carrier, so some users may need to wait a few more days or weeks.
Users should also avoid updating when the device has very little storage or low battery, because major updates such as One UI 8.5 may need extra temporary storage during download, extraction, and installation.
Why the One UI 8.5 Update Matters?
One UI 8.5 matters because it shows Samsung is moving Galaxy AI from a set of experimental features into a core part of the Galaxy experience.
For users, the main value is not only having a few new AI tools. The bigger point is that features such as Audio Eraser, Photo Assist, Live Translate, and Call Screening are being brought into everyday tasks such as phone calls, photo editing, video playback, translation, and handling unknown calls.
This makes One UI 8.5 more practical than an update focused only on visual changes. Users have clear reasons to care about whether their device is eligible, when the update will arrive, and which features will work on their specific model.
For Samsung, this also helps strengthen the Galaxy ecosystem at a time when smartphone hardware is becoming harder to differentiate each year. When design and specs no longer change dramatically between generations, software, AI, and connected-device experiences become more important reasons for users to stay with Galaxy.
What to Watch Next?
The next thing to watch is how quickly Samsung expands One UI 8.5 beyond the first group of flagship devices.
If the rollout remains stable, the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and Galaxy Tab S10 series will be important devices to watch in the next waves. After that, Samsung may expand the update to the Galaxy S23 series and newer Galaxy A devices.
Another point to watch is Samsung’s preparation for future One UI versions. One UI 8.5 may serve as a transition update that stabilizes the Android 16 experience while preparing the foundation for deeper AI features on future Galaxy devices.
Users should also watch whether Samsung brings more advanced AI features to mid-range devices. This will be important because Galaxy AI is becoming a major part of how Samsung positions new Galaxy phones.
