The Cheetahs are fighting to keep their season – and their future – alive after a shock defeat to the Valke dented their Currie Cup qualification hopes.
A 43-36 loss in Kempton Park on Saturday has left the Bloemfontein outfit under pressure heading into the final two rounds of the SA Cup.
The result saw the Free Staters slip from third to fifth on the standings. The top four go through to the semi-finals and qualify for the Currie Cup Premier Division.
FRANS: Cheetahs must ‘fix things’ after shock Valke loss
The Cheetahs face winless Border in East London on Sunday and must aim to bank a full house of points.
The Valke loss came just days after reports emerged that there are high-level discussions to include the Bloem club in the Vodacom URC.
Such a move would attract top quality players, sponsors and much-needed TV and spectator revenue.

Following the defeat, the Cheetahs posted on their social media: “It hurts to come so close, but that’s the nature of the game. We fought until the end. We take the lessons, we grow, and we come back stronger.
“To our fans: your belief, your disappointment, your loyalty – it is what drives us. In tough moments, that support matters even more. We feel it, and we will rise with it. We appreciate your care and support.”
