Leinster sweat on star forward ahead of semi

Leinster could be without a key Ireland forward for Saturday’s Investec Champions Cup semi-final against Toulon in Dublin.

The concern centres on tighthead prop Tadhg Furlong, who limped off in the 28th minute of Leinster’s shock 29-26 Vodacom URC defeat to Benetton in Treviso.

The Irish club is expected to provide a medical update on Monday.

The setback adds to a frustrating outing for Leo Cullen’s side, who were left to rue familiar issues in Italy. Game management, discipline and maul defence again proved costly as they slipped to a narrow defeat.

Toulon also have injury concerns of their own ahead of the semi-final. The French club are monitoring several key forwards, including Charles Ollivon, David Ribbans, Lewis Ludlam, Swan Rebbadj and Brian Alainu’uese.

They have already been hit by a significant blow in the backline, with Gabin Villière ruled out long term after suffering a cruciate ligament injury. He joins prop Dany Priso and fullback Marius Domon on the sidelines.

Despite those concerns, Toulon head to Dublin in confident mood after a dominant 52-26 win against Bayonne in the Top 14, running in eight tries in an attacking display.
