Serious injury mars Stormers win

The Stormers’ 48-12 victory against the Glasgow Warriors in Cape Town on Saturday may have come at a cost.

Springbok scrumhalf Cobus Reinach left the field in the 60th minute with what appeared to be a serious knee injury. The medical cart was called, but the 35-year-old managed to limp off unaided.

However, Stormers coach John Dobson did not sound optimistic in his initial assessment post-match.

“He’s in a brace and hasn’t been scanned yet,” Dobson said. “But I don’t see that being a quick turnaround.

“It looks like a ligament, possibly medial. Hopefully it’s not an ACL, but it’s serious enough to keep him out for a while.”

DOBBO: Focused Stormers stuck to plan

The setback comes at a crucial stage of the season, with two rounds of the Vodacom URC remaining before the playoffs.

“It’s going to put us under pressure,” Dobson admitted. “I thought Cobus played his best game in a while today. After the hernia op, he looked like he was on his comeback.”

Replacement No 9 Imad Khan helped the Stormers put the game to bed late on but Reinach’s expected absence will be a major blow.

“I just hope it’s not bad for the Springboks as well,” he added.
