Ex-Cheetahs flyer cops 4-game ban

Welsh outfit Ospreys will have to finish their Vodacom URC campaign without one of their prolific try scorers.

Winger Daniel Kasende has been handed a four-match suspension following his red card against Cardiff last month.

The former Griquas and Cheetahs speedster was sent off in the 18th minute of the round 16 clash after referee ruled that Kasende had committed dangerous foul play.

The incident was deemed a breach of Law 9.11, which covers reckless or dangerous actions, including leading with the elbow or forearm.

During the disciplinary hearing, Kasende accepted that his actions warranted a red card.

Murphy ruled that the offence met the red-card threshold, with the incident falling into the mid-range category and carrying a six-week entry point.

Kasende’s sanction was reduced by 50 percent because of his apology, acceptance of wrongdoing and conduct during the disciplinary process.

However, an additional week was added because of his previous disciplinary record, leaving the winger with a final suspension of four matches.

Kasende will miss Ospreys’ URC clash against the Scarlets on 9 May, followed by their showdown with Leinster on 16 May.

The remainder of the suspension will roll over into the 2026-27 season or pre-season fixtures, depending on the confirmation of his playing schedule.
