Eurovision kicked off in Vienna on Sunday, with thousands of fans flocking to the city for events and music ahead of the song contest’s grand final next weekend, with renewed calls for a boycott over Israel’s participation.

Contestants in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest 2026 walked the turquoise carpet on Sunday evening, with thousands of fans gathered outside the city’s neo-Gothic hall to cheer on their favorite performers.
Some artists, including Denmark’s Søren Torpegaard Lund, stopped to greet fans, pose for selfies, and show off signature dance moves. Others, like Sweden’s Felicia, made a quicker trip down the carpet.
A total of 35 contestants will com pete for the Eurovision trophy on Saturday.
Spain, Ireland, Iceland, the Netherlands and Slovenia have decided to snub this year’s edition in protest at Israel’s participation.
