Two Wallabies have been ruled out of Saturday’s Rugby Championship match against the Springboks in Cape Town.
Winger Dylan Pietsch sustained a broken jaw from a heavy Siya Kolisi carry during the 38-22 win at Ellis Park, while veteran prop James Slipper failed his HIA and reported concussion symptoms after the match.
Utility back Ben Donaldson has also returned home with an abductor strain, having missed the Ellis Park Test.
Coach Joe Schmidt has called in Filipo Daugunu, Rhys van Nek and Hamish Stewart as cover, while the injuries could pave the way for Test debuts for Aidan Ross and Corey Toole.
Ross, recently eligible for Australia after playing for the All Blacks, offers front-row versatility alongside Tom Robertson.
Toole is one of several options to replace Pietsch on the wing, with Daugunu and Josh Flook also in contention if Andrew Kellaway is shifted wide.
In better news, captain Harry Wilson will remain in South Africa after a knee scare, while star loose forward Rob Valetini is pushing for a return from a calf complaint.
