The NWU Eagles produced a stunning comeback to knock defending champions UCT out of the tournament and book their own place in the semi-finals.
NWU looked out of contention when trailing 39-20 at half-time in Potchefstroom on Monday night.
However, a remarkable second-half fightback saw the Eagles storm to a dramatic late 56-53 victory to finish second on the standings and secure a home semi-final against Maties.
In Joburg, Tuks finished top of the log with a commanding 51-22 victory over UJ, who did enough to secure fourth place – two points clear of UCT in fifth. The teams will meet again in next week’s semi-final in Pretoria.
In Bloemfontein, Maties claimed a 45-23 win over the CUT Ixias, who are relegated to the Varsity Shield after a winless season.
In Potchefstroom, Ikeys dominated the opening period, running in tries at will to build what seemed an unassailable 19-point lead.
However, NWU struck immediately after the break to ignite belief, before matching UCT score for score in a high-tempo contest.

With the support of a home crowd, the Eagles kept coming back at UCT. Tries from winger Logan Janeke and replacement back MJ Mostert kept them within touching distance before Mostert crossed late for his second and the match-winning try to complete the turnaround and spark wild celebrations.

In Joburg, table-topping Tuks delivered a clinical performance, scoring seven tries against UJ to underline their status as title favourites.
UJ opened up an early 8-0 lead before Tuks hit back with two point-of-origin tries and there was no looking back for the log leaders from that point as they powered into a 32-15 at the break.
There was to be no comeback for the hosts in the second half as Tuks largely held them at bay through a controlled performance.

In Bloemfontein, Maties hooker CJ Erasmus scored a hat-trick as the visitors pulled away in the second half.
Maties scored two early tries but CUT hit back with scores of their own to level matters and then took the lead through a penalty by centre Matthys Malan.
However, with half-time approaching, Maties edged ahead with a penalty try before winger Louis Fourie produced a moment of magic, scoring a point-of-origin try straight from the restart to give the visitors a 26-15 lead at the break.
CUT came back after the restart and managed to close the gap to just three points, but once the Maroon Machine found their rhythm, they shifted through the gears to win comfortably.
In the final match of the round, Emeris ended their season on a high with a 41-19 victory over Shimlas in Durban.
Shimlas finished sixth on the log and Emeris seventh.
