Two speedy stars back for Griquas

Griquas coach Piet Bergh has wasted absolutely no time in thrusting two of his x-factor players back in his starting XV.

Dylan Maart – who’s had a whirwind rise since winning the Currie Cup with Griquas last year – had been on-loan at the Stormers for the first half of the new Vodacom URC and Investec Champions Cup campaigns.

He’s now back in his familiar peacock blue No 14 jersey.

The team’s other regular wing, Gurswin Wehr, is also back after a stint with England’s Sale Sharks. Prop Eddie Davids is still with the Lions.

Bergh told Netwerk24 that the Stormers no longer need Maart due to the return of injured players and that it is better for him to play for Griquas again.

“We felt we wanted to get him involved again as soon as possible,” said Bergh.

The coach added that the Stormers can recall Maart should they run into injury problems again.

Maart will join the Bulls at the end of the Currie Cup.

“Gurswin didn’t play much at Sale and needs game time. He was unavailable last week due to a family funeral.”

Griquas, one of three unbeaten teams in the SA Cup after two matches, will run out with 15 changes, including two positional switches, for Saturday’s clash against the Bulldogs in Kimberley.

“The plan was always, if the first two games went according to plan, to give everyone in the group a run in the first three matches, and it worked out that way.”

GRIQUAS – 15 Connor Mahoney, 14 Dylan Maart, 13 Tom Nel, 12 Mnombo Zwelendaba (c), 11 Gurswin Wehr, 10 Zinedine Robinson, 9 Jack Hart, 8 Phumzile Maqondwana, 7 Marco de Witt, 6 Carl Els, 5 Carel van der Merwe, 4 Lungi Mbiko, 3 Johan Louw, 2 Janco Uys, 1 Moango Ngundue.
