Tony: Sacha just needs some TLC

Springbok attack coach Tony Brown insists Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu will emerge stronger from a recent dip in form.

The 24-year-old has struggled to inspire the Stormers during a three-match losing streak, with back-to-back defeats to the Sharks followed by a 24-10 loss to the Lions at Ellis Park on Saturday.

The mercurial pivot was relieved of the Stormers captaincy ahead of the clash against the Lions to free him up from the added responsibility.

But Brown is not concerned.

“I’ll give him a cuddle, he’ll be OK,” he quipped at a Bok media briefing in Cape Town on Monday.

The former All Blacks playmaker said the national setup provides clarity and support that will help the 19-Test flyhalf rediscover his rhythm.

“In the Springbok environment, the way we train, the way we play and the way we use every player to do his job, he fits in and it’s easy for him,” Brown said. “He understands his role. He doesn’t have to do everything on his own.”

Brown believes Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s dip is linked to him trying to shoulder too much responsibility.

“The Stormers are in a bit of a slump and he’s probably trying to do too much by himself,” he said. “If I have to say something to him, it would be: use the players around you more, don’t always try to take everyone on yourself.”
