Stormers to help sharpen Seawolves

American Major League Rugby side the Seattle Seawolves will be looking to take some Cape Town flavour into their new domestic season.

The Seawolves have confirmed they will spend two weeks in March training in Cape Town alongside John Dobson’s Stormers as part of their pre-season build-up to the new MLR campaign, which kicks off on 3 April.

The American club boasts a strong SA contingent, including Dan Kriel, Dewald Donald, Divan Rossouw, Duncan Matthews, Eduard Fouché, JP Smith, Kerron van Vuuren, Malembe Mpofu, Njabulo Gumede, Rhyno Herbst, Riekert Hattingh and Dewald Kotze.

EX-LEINSTER CEO: Stormers making right moves

Seattle head coach Allen Clarke believes rubbing shoulders with one of the Vodacom URC’s heavyweights will sharpen his squad in every department.

“The squad will travel to South Africa, to Cape Town, the home of the Stormers, one of the best teams in world rugby,” Clarke said.

“That’s going to give us an opportunity to train in a world class environment, rub shoulders and compete against top individual players and, importantly, to build a team connection and a bond that’s essential and critical to any winning side so we return home tougher, sharper, ready to perform at our best in front of you.”

For the Stormers, currently sitting third on the URC table, the arrangement adds international edge to their own preparations ahead of their next clash against the Lions in Johannesburg.
