The Springboks’ 67-30 victory over Argentina in Durban has come at a cost, with Rassie Erasmus possibly having to draft in reinforcements for the return Test at Twickenham.
The bonus-point triumph catapulted the world champions to the top of the Rugby Championship standings, one point clear of the All Blacks, but Erasmus confirmed that the bruising clash left several players nursing knocks.
“Damian [Willemse] suffered a hamstring [injury], Cheslin [Kolbe] injured his shoulder and Ethan [Hooker] has an ankle niggle.
“Thomas [du Toit] has an ankle niggle, so we might draft in Neethling Fouché – as he might be that side [with the Stormers] – and Vincent [Koch] will go with us on tour.
“We’ll see how Ox [Nche] is doing on Monday to see if he’s back in the mix and assess Thomas’ ankle.”

Erasmus also confirmed that winger Makazole Mapimpi and flyhalf Handré Pollard are set to rejoin the squad, while scrumhalf Grant Williams is fit again.
The Boks and Los Pumas fly to London on Monday, with the final-round clash potentially a title decider.
Depending on the outcome of the earlier match between Australia and New Zealand in Perth, victory at Twickenham without a bonus point could be enough for the Boks to retain the Rugby Championship crown thanks to their superior points difference.
