Siya: Rassie mindset key to Bok success

Siya Kolisi says Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has given the squad unbreakable belief, driving their historic fight to secure back-to-back Rugby Championship titles.

The Boks beat Argentina 29-27 at Twickenham on Saturday to finish above the All Blacks on points difference.

New Zealand had earlier defeated Australia 28-14 in Perth.

REPORT: Golden Boks make more history

“After the way we started [with a shock loss to the Wallabies at Ellis Park], you would not have said we would be here now,” Kolisi said. “But the belief we have in ourselves is because of what coach Rassie has instilled into this team. The mindset he has created means you don’t feel in any moment that you are going to lose.”

Kolisi admitted the Boks were tested by a resilient Pumas side but praised his teammates’ ability to respond.

“It was a tough game today. Credit to Argentina, we knew they were going to set the standard from the beginning. I’m so proud of our boys. It wasn’t the perfect game, but it is the fight we show each and every week.”

He highlighted the impact of the bench in swinging momentum.

“It doesn’t always go the way we want it to go, but we are always able to find that second gear. With the bench that we have, they are special.”

Kolisi ended by reflecting on what the victory means beyond the field.

“Our wins don’t make a huge difference, but if we can make people feel good, even for a moment, we take that with us. No matter where you are from, you are represented by this team.”
