Stellenberg High celebrated a famous victory against Paarl Gimnasium, while there were also notable wins for Grey College, Durbanville, Northwood and Jeppe.
Gim led the Cape clash 12-3 early in the second half before Stellenberg responded strongly with two converted tries and a penalty.
A missed penalty attempt from Gim left the visitors chasing the game, and although they crossed for another try, Stellenberg withstood a final onslaught from last year’s No 1-ranked SA school to claim a 20-19 victory.
Elsewhere in the Western Cape, Grey College crushed Oakdale 38-7 in Riversdale, SACS edged Milnerton 26-19, Durbanville beat Boland Landbou 24-13, Wynberg defeated Strand 24-3 and Paul Roos outplayed Drostdy 24-7.
In the Eastern Cape, Selbourne and Stirling settled for a 19-19 draw, Queen’s thrashed Cambridge 41-15 and Framesby beat St Andrews 24-17.
In Gauteng, Jeppe edged Garsfontein 29-26, St Stithians beat St David’s 20-12, Parktown hammered Trinityhouse 37-6 and St John’s beat St Alban’s 20-14.
In KwaZulu-Natal, DHS earned a 26-20 win against Michaelhouse, Kearnsey thrashed St Charles 60-19 and Northwood hammered Glenwood 40-7.
