Former Bulls loose forward Willie Potgieter‘s Kobe Steelers crushed the Urayasu D-Rocks 78-19 in Tokyo. Springbok No 8 Jasper Wiese started at flank for the D-Rocks.
Seven South Africans featured in the Saitama Wild Knights’ 66-19 win against the Honda Heat in Saitama. Franco Mostert captained the Heat, packing down alongside prop Matthys Basson and lock Janko Swanepoel. Centre Dawid Kellerman scored a first-half try for the Heat. Damian de Allende, Ockie Barnard and Juan Wilson featured for the Wild Knights.
Jesse Kriel‘s second-half try wasn’t enough as the Yokohama Canon Eagles suffered a 28-10 defeat to the Kubota Spears in Oita. Merwe Olivier, David Bullbring and Tyler Paul started in the pack for Kubota, while Rikus Pretorius was in midfield.
Springbok centre Lukhanyo Am ran out for the Mitsubishi Dynaboars in their 31-29 defeat to the Toyota Verblitz in Kyoto. Lock Lourens Erasmus and replacement hooker Schalk Erasmus featured for the Verblitz.
Kwagga Smith captained the Shizuoka Blue Revs in a 57-24 loss to the Suntory Sungoliath at the Yamaha Stadium. Former Lions back Sylvian Mahuza came off the bench for the Blue Revs.
