Saffas Abroad: Dweba, Ward keep delivering

Joseph Dweba, Jeremy Ward and Sikhumbuzo Notshe all got on the scoresheet as South Africa’s foreign legion impressed in the Top 14 and English Premiership.

French Top 14 

Five South Africans featured in Stade Francais’ 28-11 win against Perpignan. Former Sharks centre Jeremy Ward continued his superb try-scoring form, bagging a brace, while Joe Jonas started at fullback. Former SWD Eagles prop Nemo Roelofse, scrumhalf James Hall and fullback Tristan Tedder ran out for Perpignan.

Former Stormers and Sharks loose forward Sikhumbuzo Notshe dotted down for Montauban in their devastating 84-31 defeat to Clermont. Hooker Ru-Hann Greyling and centre JT Jackson featured from the bench for Montauban.

Prop Carlu Sadie and lock Tiaan Jacobs packed down for Champions Cup holders Bordeaux Begles in their 32-20 win against Lyon. Former Eastern Province lock Janse Roux came off the bench for Lyon.

English Premiership

Johann van Graan‘s Bath outmuscled the Sale Sharks 28-16 at the Recreation Ground. Prop Frans van Wyk ran out for Bath, while four South Africans featured for the Sharks – lock Hyron Andrews and flanker Ernst van Rhyn powered the scrum, with Rob du Preez and Marius Louw marshalling the midfield.

Former Stormers hooker Joseph Dweba bulldozed his way over the line in the Exeter Chiefs’ 38-15 win against the Newcastle Red Bulls. Kwenzo Blose reinforced Dweba in the pack, while prop Luan de Bruin anchored Newcastle’s front row and former Bulls and Sharks fullback Boeta Chamberlain came off the bench.

Fullback Tyrone Green started for Harlequins in their 29-19 defeat to the Leicester Tigers at Welford Road. Tighthead prop Simon Kerrod made an appearance for Quins off the bench.

Scrumhalf Ivan van Zyl‘s Saracens cruised to a convincing 50-17 win against Benhard Janse van Rensburg‘s Bristol Bears at the StoneX Stadium in London.

Former Sharks lock JJ van der Mescht packed down for the Northampton Saints in a nail-biting 37-35 win against Gloucester. Former Lions and Sharks flanker James Venter crossed the whitewash for Gloucester.
