Kriel: URC tour perfect test for Bulls

Centre David Kriel says the Vodacom Bulls are targeting three wins from three on their first URC tour of the season.

After bonus-point victories over the Ospreys (53-40) and defending champions Leinster (39-31) at Loftus, Johan Ackermann’s side sits top of the table heading into a demanding trip to Ireland and Scotland.

The Bulls face Ulster and Connacht, before rounding off their tour against the Glasgow Warriors.

“Our coach is big on battle words, and one that stands out for me is grit,” said Kriel. “I think this group has grit. We are going to go for all three games.

“We really want to win silverware this season, and this tour is going to be the perfect test for that. We’re really excited and hopefully everything works well in our favour.”

Coming off a 35-0 defeat to the Stormers in Cape Town a week earlier, Leinster – without their British & Irish Lions contingent – fought back from 22-10 down at Loftus to lead midway through the second half before Kriel’s late intercept try secured victory for the Bulls.

“It doesn’t matter what team Leinster sends to South Africa; they are always a quality outfit,” said Kriel. “You can’t pitch up and just expect it’s going to happen; you’ve got to make it happen. Luckily, the scoreboard was in our favour, but there is a lot to work on.”
