Ireland centre Robbie Henshaw says the Springboks are still “the talk of world rugby” as Andy Farrell’s men brace for Saturday’s clash in Dublin.
Henshaw hailed what he called South Africa’s unmatched squad resources.
“I think they’re the best in the world in terms of the strength in depth they have, the individual talent,” he said. “Teams look like they have them … and then they find a way to get back.”

Fresh off a record 46-19 win over Australia, Ireland face a Springbok side with a perfect record on their year-end tour so far after victories over Japan, France and Italy. Henshaw believes the clash at the Aviva Stadium will be a true barometer of Ireland’s progress.
“It’s a proper test for us to see where we’re at,” he said. “We’ve gone toe-to-toe with them. Last summer it was one win each, so I suppose they’ll be looking at that as well.”
Ireland famously stunned the Boks in the 2023 World Cup pool stage, but Henshaw expects an even more physical challenge this weekend.
“With what’s coming, it’s more of that up-front physicality and big men running down our channels,” he warned.
EBEN: Ireland fixture stood out for Boks
While encouraged by Ireland’s clinical edge against the Wallabies, he stressed the need for a tougher defensive effort.
“We conceded quite easily… when they got a roll on,” he admitted. “We just need to meet them on the gainline and front up – that’s the big thing, stopping the momentum of teams.”
