Ex-Ireland star: Rassie the best coach I ever had

Simon Zebo says Rassie Erasmus is the best coach he ever played under, and believes the Springboks are poised to become the new All Blacks.

The former Ireland wing/fullback played for Erasmus during the South African’s two-year spell at Munster in 2016 and 2017.

Erasmus then returned home to revive the Boks and launch a run that now includes back-to-back World Cup titles.

“Rassie would be No 1 for sure, he’s the best coach I’ve ever had. I loved him,” Zebo told talkSPORT Ireland. “We had a bad culture for a year or two at Munster, and when Rassie came in that got put to bed very fast. I miss that old school ‘say it how it is, no BS’. No one was second-guessing anything.”

Zebo said said Erasmus and Jacques Nienaber were “an amazing duo” who could have taken Munster “to the holy grail” had they stayed.

Given what he saw in Limerick, Zebo said he always believed Erasmus would turn the Boks into a powerhouse.

“If he had the talent pool South Africa has, there’s no way they wouldn’t win a World Cup.”

And the Irishman believes the dynasty is only beginning.

“I think they’re going to be the new All Blacks – for 20 or 30 years nobody will touch them.”
