Champions Cup Team of the Week (Round of 16)

One South African was named in the Investec Champions Cup Team of the Week after the round-of-16 playoffs.

Stormers lock Adré Smith cracked the nod, based on data from Oval Insights. The Cape side suffered a one-point defeat to Toulon, with Smith denied a late match-winning try.

Leinster laboured past Edinburgh, in part thanks to flank Jack Conan’s relentlessness at the breakdown and winger Tommy O’Brien’s clinical double that they progressed.

The Sale Sharks, Leinster’s quarter-final opponents, also boast two players in the Team of the Week. Hooker Luke Cowan-Dickie rumbled over twice, while lock Ben Bamber impressed in the engine room.

Bordeaux Bègles’ 150kg prop Ben Tameifuna makes the cut too, thanks to his steamroller of a try against the Leicester Tigers.

Despite the defeat, Castres scrumhalf Santiago Arata expertly dictated his side’s ruck speed against the Northampton Saints.

Toulouse left wing Matthis Lebel and outside centre Kalvin Gourgues also feature after grabbing braces against the Bristol Bears.
