Bordeaux Bègles have secured a massive off-field win, with their captain extending his contract until 2029.
Maxime Lucu has confirmed the news in a video message played at Stade Chaban-Delmas ahead of his side’s blockbuster Investec Champions Cup quarter-final against Toulouse.

The 33-year-old scrumhalf has become a cornerstone of Bordeaux’s rise since joining from Biarritz in 2019, racking up 160 appearances across seven seasons.
During that time, he has led the club to two Top 14 finals and played a key role in their historic Champions Cup triumph in 2025.
On the international stage, Lucu has also been a consistent presence for France since making his debut in 2021, earning 30 caps and contributing to Six Nations title-winning campaigns in 2022 and 2025.
His decision to extend comes at a crucial time for Bordeaux, as they continue to establish themselves as one of Europe’s powerhouse clubs.
