Springbok hooker Malcolm Marx says South Africa’s Rugby Championship triumph will take a few days to sink in.
Marx played a starring role in Saturday’s tense 29-27 win over Argentina at Twickenham.
The hard-hitting No 2 was at the heart of the Boks’ performance, scoring two crucial tries as Rassie Erasmus’ side held off a fierce Los Pumas challenge to claim back-to-back Rugby Championship titles for the first time.
RASSIE: Boks showed massive fight
“It’s a bit surreal to be honest,” said Marx. “I’m just extremely grateful for everything that has happened over the past few weeks, the lessons learned, victories that we’ve had.
“What we’ve achieved will probably sink in over the next few days. But there’s still a lot of hard work ahead to improve ourselves.”
SIYA: Rassie mindset key to Bok success
While the Springboks had to dig deep after trailing 13-3 midway through the first half, Marx said the focus was always on composure and execution.
“We just tried to focus on ourselves and obviously give the best performance we could,” he explained. “There were errors, and areas where we can be better, but we’ll definitely take the victory and enjoy it.”

The 31-year-old praised Argentina’s intensity, noting that the result was another step forward for the team after last year’s away defeat to the same opponents.
“We definitely expected them to come out like that,” Marx said. “They’re a great nation and a proud rugby side. It was tough, as you could see by the scoreline. Last year they beat us when we played away, and to beat them twice in a row is obviously something special for us.”
REINACH: Bok forwards to get lots of beer
For Marx, it was another standout performance in green and gold – one that underlined his importance to the world champions as they now turn their attention to a demanding end-of-year tour which includes blockbuster Tests against France and Ireland.
