Reinach: Boks forwards to get lots of beer

Cobus Reinach has credited the Springbok forward pack for spearheading a hard-fought win over Argentina in the Rugby Championship at Twickenham on Saturday.

The scrumhalf scored two of the Boks’ four tries in their 29-27 win over a passionate Los Pumas team, who scored in the last play to narrow the points gap to just two. But by then, it was too little too late.

“We haven’t ever won it back-to-back, so doing this showed a lot of character from the team,” Reinach said. “We’re still growing, there are still a lot of improvements to make but we’re slowly getting there. We’re building and building.”

REPORT: Golden Boks make more history

It was by no means a fluid performance from the Boks, but Reinach says despite its scrappy nature, the forwards laid the foundation for victory.

“It’s probably one of the best jobs in the world to play behind a pack like that. They do all the hard work and we’ll give them a lot of beer tonight.”

PICK YOUR BOK MVP: Boks vs Argentina

The new Stormers recruit says the Boks expected a response from Argentina after their 67-30 defeat in Durban and knew they were going to push until the final whistle.

“You’re not just going to come out here and run over any team in the world anymore. We have to break teams down, and it takes some teams 50, 60 or 70 minutes and Argentina – credit to them – they’ve been unreal, they have a lot of dog in them and similar to us, they don’t stop and just keep fighting.”
