Ulster captain learns Fourie croc roll fate

Iain Henderson has received his disciplinary outcome after the incident that injured Stormers flank Deon Fourie in Belfast.

The Ulster captain was on Thursday suspended for three matches.

Henderson was initially shown a yellow card by referee Andrea Piardi before the sanction was upgraded to a 20-minute red card following review.

A disciplinary hearing found that he had contravened Law 9.20(d), which states that a player may not roll, pull or twist an opponent at the breakdown.

Henderson accepted that his actions warranted a red card.

The independent disciplinary committee deemed the act reckless and applied a mid-range entry point of six weeks.

However, Henderson received the maximum 50% mitigation because of his previous good disciplinary record, remorse, immediate concern for Fourie and co-operation during the process.

That reduced the suspension to three games.

DOBBO: Fourie faces lengthy lay-off

The Ireland international will miss Ulster’s final-round Vodacom URC clash against the Glasgow Warriors, the EPCR Challenge Cup final against Montpellier and potentially a URC quarter-final, depending on Ulster’s progress in the competition.

The suspension could also extend into Ireland’s Nations Championship clash against Australia on 4 July if required.
