Maties are looking at life beyond current head coach Kabamba Floors, and a former Bulls coach is said to be next in line.
Chris Rossouw – who had recently been axed as Bulls backline coach – appears to be the frontrunner to replace Floors in Stellenbosch when his contract expires on 31 July.
The university side has not offered him an extension. However, according to Stellenbosch University spokesperson Martin Viljoen, he and other coaches whose contracts are expiring are “free to reapply for the positions”.

Several sources, however, told Rapport that Rossouw is being earmarked for the role.
“Coaching and performance structures are managed through established university processes, including formal recruitment, performance reviews and ongoing assessment mechanisms. These processes are designed to ensure alignment with programme goals, accountability and sustained competitiveness over time,” Viljoen told Rapport when asked whether Floors had effectively been pushed out.
Viljoen added that Maties’ coaches and management teams are appointed in “one- to three-year cycles”, with Floors’ cycle nearing completion.
Although Maties have performed well under Floors in the Varsity Cup, he and the university have clashed.

The university disciplined Floors in September last year after he was involved in an incident at a Stellenbosch bar in August 2025.
The university confirmed at the time that disciplinary action had been taken against Floors, a former Springbok who played a Test against England in 2006. According to Netwerk24, Floors received a “final written warning”.
