Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu admitted the drop-goal option was not considered after the Stormers fell agonisingly short against Toulon at the Stade Mayol.
In a frantic finish to the Investec Champions Cup last-16 clash, the Stormers – trailing 28-27 – had worked themselves into Toulon’s 22.
But instead of setting up for a drop goal, the visitors kept ball in hand against 13 men – a decision that ultimately ended in heartbreak after they were controversially held up over the line following a TMO review.

Reflecting on that final passage of play, Feinberg-Mngomezulu conceded the moment may have called for a different approach.
“We probably had them in the contest. It wasn’t the sort of game that we were looking for a bonus point or needing to win by any sort of points difference,” he said.
“Upon reflection, I probably could’ve dropped into the pocket, but it’s easier said when things don’t go our way.”

The Stormers had already shown their attacking intent throughout the match, fighting back from a second-half deficit and scoring twice late on to give themselves a shot at victory.
But the decision not to go for the drop goal – coupled with the controversial ‘no try’ call at the death – left them ruing what might have been in one of Europe’s toughest arenas.
