Griquas have backed continuity and ambition by tying down head coach Pieter Bergh until the end of 2029.
The extension comes on the back of a historic campaign, with Bergh guiding the Peacock Blues to their first Currie Cup title in 55 years – a dramatic win over the Lions at Ellis Park.
But the job, in his eyes, is far from done.

“My dream for this union is to win a Currie Cup on our home ground. It was great to do it at Ellis Park, but my dream is to win a Currie Cup here in Kimberley.”
Bergh, who has been in charge since 2021, has steadily built one of the most competitive sides outside the URC structures, combining sharp recruitment with a clear identity.
“Definitely. 2022 [the final against the Pumas] was also a highlight in a way to host the Currie Cup final, but the cherry on top was the 2025 final.”
His focus now shifts to building on that success, with stability in the coaching group a key priority.
“I feel we have an established coaching team. We hope to finalise their contracts soon so they can walk this path with me.”

Beyond silverware, Bergh has a bigger vision – to make Griquas the benchmark team outside the elite URC clubs.
“It’s great that top management has bought into this vision … it was actually an easy decision for me.”
