Connacht outgun Ulster in Belfast thriller

Connacht delivered a clinical display in Belfast, outscoring Ulster to secure a valuable Vodacom URC win on the road.

The visitors ran in four tries to three to claim a 26-19 win, with wing Finn Treacy leading the charge with a brace.

Connacht struck first through No 8 Sean Jansen, who powered over for an early try, before Nathan Doak hit back for Ulster with a score of his own to level matters.

But the game swung decisively in the visitors’ favour after the break.

Connacht came out firing in the second half, with Finlay Bealham crashing over from close range before Treacy crossed for his first, stretching the lead to 19-7 and putting Ulster under pressure.

The hosts responded through Zac Ward, who showed good pace down the touchline to finish a well-worked move and keep Ulster in the fight.

However, Connacht had another answer.

Treacy struck again minutes later, finishing off a slick attack to restore breathing room and keep the visitors in control heading into the closing stages.

Ulster threw everything at Connacht late on, with prop Angus Bell crashing over in the 76th minute to set up a tense finish, but the visitors held firm to secure an important away victory. Ireland centre Bundee Aki put in a strong, all-round performance and was named Man of the Match.

At Parc y Scarlets, Jarrod Taylor scored twice as Scarlets beat Zebre Parma 36-17.
