All Blacks No 9 extends beyond World Cup

One of New Zealand’s highly-rated scrumhalves has committed to the All Blacks and the Chiefs until the end of the 2028 season.

Last year’s beaten Super Rugby Pacific finalists confirmed on Sunday that Cortez Ratima has signed a new two-year extension.

The 24-year-old has rapidly established himself as one of New Zealand’s premier No 9s, helping steer the Chiefs to multiple Super Rugby finals and earning 21 caps for the All Blacks.

“I love this club and how they have supported me and my family. I’m loving what Jono [coach Jono Gibbes] and the other coaches are doing and there’s no place I’d rather be,” Ratima said.

WRAP: Brumbies stay unbeaten in Super Rugby

His decision comes hot on the heels of fellow All Blacks scrumhalf Cam Roigard extending his stay with the Hurricanes through to 2029, underlining the stability in New Zealand’s halfback stocks.

Gibbes welcomed the news.

“It’s great to have a player of Cortez’s ability stick with us,” he said. “It shows his faith in what we are doing and where we are heading, which is terrific.”
