The Vodacom URC SA Shield is still up for grabs with only three local derbies remaining.
The Sharks would have retained the Shield with victory against the Lions at Ellis Park over the weekend, but the hosts’ 34-22 win moved them to within just one point of the Durbanites, who remain on 16.
The Vodacom Bulls (nine) and Stormers (seven) – who both still have two derbies to play, including a north-south clash on 14 March – are also in contention.
