A Cheetahs scrumhalf caught the eye at training in Bloemfontein on Monday.
Marco Jansen van Vuren wore large black protective glasses, prompting teammates to quickly hand him a couple of new nicknames, including “RoboCop” and “The Fly”.
Netwerk24 reports that Jansen van Vuren is training with eyewear prescribed by his ophthalmologist as a precaution after undergoing recent eye surgery.
“It’s not only to protect me from bright sunlight,” Jansen van Vuren told the website, “but also from the wind and to prevent things from getting into my eyes.”

The frames include a sponge lining around the outside for added protection, and although the conditions were cloudy in Bloemfontein on Monday, the 29-year-old still stopped a few times between drills to clean the lenses as he adjusted to training with them.
He is expected to wear the glasses for another two weeks.
