Everitt axes Edinburgh assistants

Having retained his role as head coach, Sean Everitt has overhauled Edinburgh’s set-up.

The Scottish club announced on Wednesday that assistant coaches Rob Chrystie and Michael Todd will depart at the end of the season. Edinburgh are currently 13th on the 16-team Vodacom URC log after 11 rounds.

Chrystie, who previously led Edinburgh A, was appointed attack and backs coach for the 2023-24 season and most recently oversaw skills and off-the-ball work. Todd, who joined the club in 2022, has been responsible for Edinburgh’s defensive systems over the past four campaigns.

The URC side confirmed it is actively seeking replacements for both coaches, while further changes are set to be implemented across the club’s medical and strength and conditioning departments in the coming weeks.

Edinburgh added that discussions are ongoing with other members of the coaching and performance staff, with a full update to follow once the process is complete.

Everitt, who arrived at Edinburgh in 2023 after a lengthy spell in charge of the Sharks, said the changes were necessary to take the club forward.

“I have taken the difficult decision to refresh our coaching and performance groups in order to take this club in a new direction, with renewed energy, expertise and fresh voices,” he said. “We’re taking this step now to ensure we have the foundations in place to thrive and succeed.

“I would like to sincerely thank Rob and Michael, as well as those moving on from our medical and strength and conditioning departments. They have all served the club well and leave with our very best wishes.”

Edinburgh managing director Douglas Struth confirmed the club’s backing of Everitt’s approach, describing the changes as a key part of long-term planning.

“We fully support Sean in these changes to the club’s coaching and performance areas,” Struth said. “We are excited to see how he can move the club forward with a new-look coaching group around him in 2026-27.

“On behalf of everyone at the club, I want to thank those leaving for their hard work and dedication. They have been valued colleagues and move on with our gratitude.”
